Many UK restaurants add a service charge of 10-12.5% directly to the bill, particularly in cities and for larger groups. Check the bill before adding anything extra.
If a service charge is already listed, no further tip is needed. If nothing has been added, 10-12.5% is a normal amount to leave for good service.
Service charges on UK bills are usually optional in law, even when printed on the receipt, so you can ask for it to be removed if service was genuinely poor. Tipping in pubs for drinks at the bar is not customary.
