Many restaurants in the UAE, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, add a service charge of around 10% to the printed bill, along with municipality and VAT fees.
If a service charge line is already listed, an additional tip is optional. Where none is listed, 10% is a reasonable amount for good service.
Service charges added to the bill do not always go directly to serving staff, so many people leave a small amount of cash directly for the server in addition to the printed charge.
