Rounding up the bill or leaving small change is enough at most restaurants. Up to 10% is reasonable at higher-end restaurants in tourist areas.
Some restaurants add a service charge automatically for larger groups — check the printed bill before adding anything further.
PromptPay QR codes are on display almost everywhere, from restaurant tables to street stalls, and most locals pay this way rather than with cash. It normally requires a Thai bank account to set up, so it isn't something most visitors need to worry about — cards and cash both work fine at tourist-facing venues, and a growing number of places can also accept payment via Alipay or WeChat Pay for visitors from China.
