Miami follows standard US restaurant tipping (see the United States guide), but is well known for automatic gratuity — a fixed service charge, commonly 15-20%, added automatically to bills for larger groups or in tourist-heavy areas like South Beach. Florida law requires this to be disclosed clearly on the menu and on the bill, but it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it.
For a normal-sized table, 18-20% is the standard tip, same as the rest of the US. If your bill already shows an automatic gratuity line, check the amount before adding anything further — it typically replaces the tip entirely rather than sitting alongside it.
Read your bill carefully before paying: it's not uncommon in Miami, particularly at bars and restaurants in tourist areas, for an automatic gratuity to already be included and for a separate “add tip” line to appear on the card slip anyway, resulting in people accidentally tipping twice. If you see a gratuity already listed, there's no need to fill in the tip line unless you want to leave more.
